The Heart of the Sound
Diann Shumate has performed at the House of Blues Hollywood, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, and provided background vocals for Chaka Khan, Cheryl Lynn, and The Gap Band on Sony Pictures projects. Guitarist RichMo Brown has opened for Chicago and Tower of Power. Drummer Cliff Caines has performed with James Brown and Kool & The Gang, and studied under Charlie Persip of the Dizzy Gillespie Band. Together they bring world-class musicianship to every Phoenix-area event.
Vocals
Diann Shumate
Diann has a musical background that began in church choirs and continued into professional recording studios. Over time, she has developed her skills as a singer, songwriter, and performer in musical theater. She has performed at venues including the House of Blues in Hollywood, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, and the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) in Arizona.
Her experience also includes providing background vocals for artists such as Chaka Khan, Cheryl Lynn, and The Gap Band, along with work on projects for Sony Pictures. Currently, she performs regularly throughout the Phoenix area, appearing at restaurants and corporate events, and continues to focus on delivering quality musical performances.
Guitar
RichMo
Raised in a musical family, Rich began studying guitar and piano at age ten. He studied with guitar greats Warren Nunes, Joe Pass, and Bruce Forman. He played extensively throughout the Bay Area and later led the Phoenix jazz band Ninety2West, opening for acts such as Chicago, Tower of Power, and Richard Smith. His unique style blends traditional jazz with blues, be-bop, Latin, and contemporary flavors.
Drums
Cliff Caines
Cliff moved to Phoenix in 2019 from the NY Metro area, where his early groups opened for acts such as James Brown, Kool & The Gang, and The O'Jays. His musical adventures in NYC included everything from jazz gigs at the Bitter End to off-Broadway theater to opening for Meat Loaf.
Cliff began studying drums when he was 10 years old. He was a Music Performance Major at Montclair State University, where he studied orchestral and mallet percussion. He also studied jazz drumming with several teachers in the NYC area, including Charlie Persip of the Dizzy Gillespie Band.
He is also a regular at the Sunday night jam sessions at The Nash, Phoenix's premiere jazz club.
